Columbine dethrones Cherry Creek as 5A football champion

The Rebels captured their first state title in 12 years by defeating the four-time defending champion Bruins.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — For the first time in multiple years, there's a new Class 5A football champion.

Columbine and four-time defending champion Cherry Creek clashed in the state title game between undefeated powerhouses at CSU's Canvas Stadium on Saturday.

The Rebels used a quick start to take control and knock off the Bruins 28-14. It is the sixth title in program history for Columbine, and first since 2011.

The win also caps off a perfect season for the Rebels, who went an undefeated 14-0 overall in route to the championship.

Cherry Creek finishes 13-1 overall as runner-up.
