National Signing Day: Macias is top ranked goalie

ThunderRidge senior Sabrina Macias had to overcome her disorder to make a DI dream a reality

ID=22782037Soccer was the easy part.

The struggle for Sabrina Macias was in the classroom. The ThunderRidge senior is dyslexic. Growing up she had difficulty with reading and math.

"Or even writing numbers, if someone was to communicate it and I had to process it I'd flip it," said Macias. "So for example, 75, I'd flip to 57."

Sabrina attended Havern School which specializes in learning disabilities with the hope of preparing students for high school.

"I can honestly say that without that school I'd probably be dropped out," Macias told 9NEWS.

The stress from battling the disorder was taken out on the soccer field and Sabrina quickly realized she had talent. Recruiting letters started rolling in.

"But the one email I was waiting for was from BYU," said Macias.

It came. That made her decision an easy one.

Brigham Young is getting the top ranked goalie in the 2015 class, a girl that has been playing with the top national team in her age group since she was 14. Sabrina will sign on Wednesday.

"I'm excited. Stoked. I can't even wait," she said with a smile.

Soccer was always a given, college was not.

Now Sabrina gets to put the two together, like one of those math problems she used to find so difficult.
