CU's opening football game changes dates

In addition to a return to the Big 12 Conference, 2024 will be the second season the Buffs will take the field led by Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders.

CU Athletics announced its season-opening football game against North Dakota State has been moved to Thursday, Aug. 29, instead of Saturday, Aug. 31.

Time and television selection for the game slated for Folsom Field are still to be determined.

This will be the first football game between the Buffaloes and Bison, one of the top FCS programs in the nation with 17 National Championships.

This fall marks the second season the Buffs will take the field led by Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders. The Buffaloes also return to the Big 12 in 2024, their first season in the conference since 2010.

The Buffs open the season with three non-conference games. The opening game against North Dakota State will be followed by road games against rivals Nebraska on Sept. 7 and Colorado State on Sept. 14.

CU said the last time the Buffs played in both Lincoln and Fort Collins was in the 1996 season, which is also the last time Colorado played at Colorado State.

Colorado ends the 2024 season at home the day after Thanksgiving, on Friday, Nov. 29, against Oklahoma State.

This season the Buffs will play nine of 15 conference opponents: Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Arizona, Utah, Central Florida, and Cincinnati.

Kansas announced Tuesday that several of its home games will be played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs, while its campus stadium is renovated. Colorado's game on Nov. 23 will be played at the NFL stadium.

CU said game start time and television information will be announced at the end of May. Time and TV for CU's matchups at Nebraska and at Colorado State are also expected around the same time.
