DU vs. CC hockey at Coors Field

DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche aren't the only ones who will be playing an outdoor game next year. As 9NEWS first reported The University of Denver will be play rival Colorado College on Feb. 20, 2016.

The 'Battle on Blake' will be the first competitive collegiate hockey game ever played at Coors Field. This will also be the first time that the Gold Pan rivalry between DU and CC will be played outdoors.

DU and CC have been rivals since 1950. The Pioneers have gone 165-116-17 in the 298 times they have played the Tigers.

DU swept the CC in the four-game season series in the 2014-2015 season. They reclaimed the Gold Pan Trophy, which is given annually to the winner of the DU-CC series.

This will be the first time that a sport other than baseball will be played at the stadium competitively. The Colorado Avalanche will play the Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field on Feb. 27, 2016.
