ENGLEWOOD, Colo — Given the state of the Denver Broncos, another set of scouting eyes can't hurt.

The Broncos are in the process of hiring Cody Rager as their vice president of player personnel. Rager had been with the New Orleans Saints the previous nine years, most recently as their assistant college scouting director. While there, he impressed former Saint-turned-Broncos head coach Sean Payton to hire him away with a promotion.

Rager will primarily help Broncos general manager George Paton with college scouting. The rest of Paton's personnel staff – assistant GM Darren Mougey, college scouting director Brian Stark and pro personnel director A.J. Durso – remains in place.

Many of the Broncos' scouts are in Mobile, Ala., this week for the Senior Bowl.

Besides his stint with the Saints, Rager has also worked for the Miami Dolphins as a scout and in the football department for the University of Tennessee and Alabama.
