Rockies call up Mohr and Witasick and send two down to minors

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has returned OF Dustan Mohr from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list. In addition, the club has also purchased the contract of RHP Jay Witasick from Colorado Springs (AAA).

To make room on the active roster, the Rockies have optioned RHP Scott Dohmann and RHP Ryan Speier to Triple A.Colorado's Opening Day starter in right field, Mohr was placed on the 15-day DL after just one game on April 5 due to a strained left calf muscle. Mohr was sent on a rehab assignment to Colorado Springs where he played in three games, batting .250 (3-for-12) with a home run and four RBI.A non-roster invitee with the Orioles this spring, Witasick signed a minor league contract with the Rockies on April 9 after being released from Baltimore on April 7. A seven-year major league veteran, the 32-year old Witasick has appeared in 289 career games (56 starts) in the big leagues, compiling a 29-36 record with a 4.72 ERA and four saves. He spent all of 2004 with the Padres, going 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA and one save in 44 relief outings.Dohmann pitched in nine games for the Rockies this season and was 0-1 with a 18.90 ERA in 6.2 innings. Speier worked in 10 games for Colorado, compiling a 1-1 mark with a 9.82 ERA in 7.1 innings.
