Skiers enjoy April snow in the High Country

Sometimes you save the best for last, and that's been the case for snow this season at Colorado ski areas.

At Loveland Ski Area, cars are still rolling into the parking lot with skiers like Keith Irwin from Michigan who came to Colorado to enjoy some late season snow.

He’s hitting the slopes just as Colorado gets hit with the best snow of season. Dustin Schafer with Loveland Ski Area says ski areas have seen 65 inches of snow so far this month.

“April has been our best month this season, we have gotten a ton,” Schafer said. "Snow conditions are still great up here.”

Skiers and snowboarders will still have a couple more weekends to enjoy the snow before the ski area closes for the season on Sunday, May 6.

Over at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Leigh Hierholzer says they have seen about 50 inches of snow in April.

“April was a great month for us and we still have a week left,” Hierholzer said.

Their closing date isn’t until June 3, but with so much snow in April, the ski area is already talking about possibly being able to extend further.

“It all depends on the snow conditions from now until then,” Hierholzer said.

While back at Loveland, Irwin knows his snow time is limited – which is why he also brought his bike – and plans on doing as much in Colorado as he can.
