Water main break forces overnight closure of stretch of Colorado Boulevard

The road was shut down for about 24 hours from when the break was first reported.

A stretch of Colorado Boulevard near Interstate 25 remained closed overnight as crews from Denver Water work to repair an 8-inch water main that busted early Wednesday morning.

In a tweet, Denver Water said repairs would last through the night as crews continue to repair the road. All lanes reopened Thursday morning, about 24 hours from when the break was first reported.

Crews responded to the water main break near the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Buchtel Boulevard, just south of Interstate 25 around 6 a.m. Six residential customers were without water, Denver Water said.

At this time, it's unclear what caused the water main to break.

On Twitter, Denver Water also gave a shout out to the nearby Perkins Restaurant, which provided coffee to workers out in the cold early Wednesday.
