DENVER — Snow was moving onto the Front Range on Friday, as the Denver metro area was expecting a few inches of accumulation by Saturday morning.

The cold front moved into Colorado late Thursday, bringing strong winds in the foothills and mountains west of Denver. Radar showed snow falling in Castle Rock and areas south of the Denver metro area on Friday morning.

The latest forecast suggests that the heaviest snow will hit the Denver metro area between 5 and 11 p.m.

The Front Range and Denver area can expect several inches of snow by Saturday morning. Snow total predictions range from 1 to 4 inches in the Denver area. Up to one foot of snow could fall in Colorado's high country.

Here's the forecast for snow accumulation in the Denver metro area for Dec. 8, 2023.

The snow may have a hard time sticking initially, with temperatures in the 30s and a warm ground after four-straight days at 60 or above in Denver. But later in the day, temperatures will drop, and that will allow the snow to start to stick.

The heaviest snow in the Denver area looks likely on Friday evening, with a quick 1 to 2 inches of snow possible after 5 p.m. That could lead to impacts for the Friday evening commute, especially the end of it.

The highest totals will come on the west and south sides of the metro area, where the snow will hold on the longest. The gap on Interstate 25 between Denver and Colorado Springs could be especially slick on Friday night.

Regardless of how much snow we see, it'll clear out pretty quickly for Saturday. It'll stay chilly but mostly sunny this weekend, with highs in the 30s on Saturday and the 40s on Sunday.

It'll stay quiet into the start of next week, with temperatures near our seasonal average highs in the mid-40s.

Make sure to tie down those Christmas decorations on the west side of the Denver area, and plan around at least some snow on Friday, as well! We'll have frequent updates here on 9NEWS.
