Teen floats across Lakewood intersection during hail storm

He thought it was just a few inches, but the water London Mcelhaney ended up driving through was about 3 feet ... and he didn't drive, he floated.

It doesn't take much for certain memories to come flooding back, like the ones you felt in your first car wreck. Unfortunately for 16-year-old London Mcelhaney, his first car wreck made the news. He got his license only three months ago.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mcelhaney thought he could drive through a flooded intersection in Lakewood. But what he thought was just a few inches, ended up being a few feet.

“I want to forget this day happened," said Mcelhaney. "I don’t want to talk about it."

His car floated across the intersection at 21st Way and Urban Drive and onto a lawn. Spencer Diegel was watching out his window.

"Every couple of years somebody gets stuck in the ditch," he said.

Diegel ran over and helped pull London out his car window.

"Poor kid must have been frightened," he said. "But he seemed chill about the whole thing."

Everyone is safe, and lucky London gets a news story to make the memory last.

“It’ll be a fun story later," he said. "Just right now it sucks”
