Flights canceled, delayed at Denver's airport due to snow

A winter storm with snow and blizzard conditions caused many flights to be delayed or canceled at Denver International Airport.

DENVER — Winter weather has caused hundreds of flights at Denver International Airport to be delayed or canceled on Sunday and Monday.

On Monday, seven flights have been canceled and 169 are delayed at Denver's airport, according to FlightAware as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.

On Sunday, at least 50 flights were canceled and 493 flights were delayed at Denver's airport.

SkyWest, Southwest, United, Frontier, American, and Delta are among the impacted airlines.

Denver International Airport said it typically handles anywhere from 1,700 to 2,000 flights on any given day.

The state's largest airport recommended that travelers check security wait times ahead of travel at FlyDenver.com and reminded passengers that de-icing operations could add 15 to 20 minutes to a trip.

The cold front came roaring through into Colorado late Sunday, kicking off a few thunderstorms. When the cold air followed, it all changed to snow, heavy at times, with plenty of gusty winds.

Another few inches of snow are possible by sunrise Monday morning. The snow will end across Colorado Monday morning as the storm moves out of the state, but cold and windy conditions will remain.

We’ll go back to a northwesterly flow over the state Tuesday with a bit of moisture still in it meaning a few showers may still be possible into Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, a high pressure ridge will build back into the state bringing milder and drier weather across the state with highs returning to the mid 60s in Denver by Thursday.
