What all the Olympics programming means for your favorite shows on 9NEWS

Sorry, "Days of Our Lives" fans: your storylines will be put on hold until Aug. 9.

DENVER — The Tokyo Olympics will bring two weeks of action and intrigue to TV screens around the world, but fans of shows like "Days of Our Lives" and "Next with Kyle Clark" will have to prepare themselves for some temporary changes.

"Days of Our Lives" will be preempted nationwide during the Olympics, and resume its regular broadcast schedule and storylines on Monday, Aug. 9.

When it returns, fans can expect a one-day appearance from Backstreet Boys heartthrob A.J. McLean, who posted about his upcoming guest appearance on Instagram. It's unclear the exact date of his appearance.

"Days of Our Lives" is currently in its 56th season and has been renewed for numbers 57 and 58. It typically airs at 2 p.m. on 9NEWS.

Speaking of mainstays, fans of Next with Kyle Clark will also have to adjust to some (temporary) changes.

The show, which typically airs weeknights at 6 p.m., will move to 9:30 p.m. during the Olympics (temporary title: "Next at Nite").

Meanwhile, 9NEWS at 4 p.m. will be a half hour-long show, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt will move to the 4:30 p.m. timeslot during the Olympics (it usually airs at 5:30 p.m.).

Fans of Tom Green and Kim Christiansen can still get their fix on 9NEWS at 5 p.m., and can follow that with "Olympic Zone" at 5:30 p.m.

The Tokyo Olympics began on July 23 and will continue until Aug. 6. See all of our coverage at www.9news.com/olympics
