Here's when to expect your property tax statement after Colorado legislature changes

Your property tax statement might be late coming to you this year, but half of the bill will still be due at the end of February.

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Your property tax statement might be late coming to you this year, but half of the bill will still be due at the end of February, Larimer County Treasurer Irene Josey announced Wednesday.

Property tax changes made at the Colorado legislature's special session in November are delaying the certification of the county tax rolls by two weeks, according to Josey. They delay gives taxing authorities more time to certify their mill levies and gives county assessors more time to gather data.

Statements are expected to come out in late January, and the first half of the year's payment is due Feb. 29. That's true whether you pay that directly or your mortgage company automatically pays it for you.

The legislature didn't extend the payment deadline because they wanted to make sure special districts had the revenue to continue to operate, according to the news release. Special districts include fire departments, school districts, health districts and hospitals.
