6 arrested after violent carjacking in Whole Foods parking lot

The victims were forcibly pulled out of their vehicle at gunpoint and struck in their heads with pistols, according to prosecutors.

DENVER — Six people, including two juveniles, have been charged in connection with a violent carjacking in a Cherry Creek parking lot late last month, the Denver District Attorney's Office said on Thursday.

The aggravated armed double carjacking occurred Jan. 23 at Whole Foods in Cherry Creek. Denver Police Department (DPD) officers responded to a 911 call of a robbery in the parking lot at East 2nd Avenue and University Boulevard.

The two victims reported that as they parked, a group of males surrounded their vehicle and demanded that they exit their vehicle. The victims were forcibly pulled out of their vehicle at gunpoint, and both were struck in the heads with pistols. The victims said the males stole their car and fled, the District Attorney's Office said.

Officers pursued the stolen car to 17th Avenue and Willow Street. At that location, the driver stopped the vehicle, and several people got out and attempted to carjack another vehicle, according to prosecutors.

Officers arrested the six suspects in a nearby backyard.

Josiah McCray, 19; Jurdon Bryant-Beasley, 19; Elrich Haliburton,18, and Nyariee Richardson, 20, were charged in Denver District Court. A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were charged separately in Juvenile Court.

McCray was charged with one count of violating Colorado’s Organized Crime Control Act. He was also charged with the following:

  • Three counts of aggravated robbery
  • One count of second-degree assault
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • Two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery
  • Two counts of attempted robbery
  • Two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft

 Bryant-Beasley was also charged with one count of violating Colorado’s Organized Crime Control Act. He was also charged with the following:

  • Two counts of aggravated robbery
  • Two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery
  • Two counts of attempted aggravated robbery
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of attempted aggravated motor vehicle theft

Haliburton was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of aggravated robbery
  • Two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft

 Richardson was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of aggravated robbery
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • Two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery
  • Two counts of attempted aggravated robbery
  • One count of attempt to influence a public servant
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft

The 16-year-old boy was charged with the following:

  • Three counts of aggravated robbery
  • One count of second-degree assault
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • Sentence enhancer juvenile in possession of a weapon

The 15-year-old boy was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of aggravated robbery
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery
  • One count of conspiracy to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft
  • One count of attempt to commit aggravated motor vehicle theft
