Man faces more than 400 years behind bars after conviction on 8 counts of attempted murder

Eugene Robertson was convicted this month for multiple crimes that occurred on the same night in October 2022.

AURORA, Colo. — An Arapahoe County jury convicted a man this month on eight counts of attempted murder and numerous other charges related to a series of crimes in Aurora in 2022 – including threatening a Burger King employee.

Eugene Robertson, now 40, was found guilty April 8. He could face more than 400 years in prison when he is sentenced in August.

“This defendant endangered countless lives that night by recklessly firing a gun,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Taylor McCreary. “It’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt or killed."

Around 11 p.m. Oct. 17, 2022, Robertson ordered food at a Burger King near South Buckley Road and East Alameda Avenue in Aurora. After pulling up to the drive-thru window, Robertson attempted to pay for his meal with drugs.

When the employee refused to accept the drugs as payment, Robertson pointed a gun at the employee and then drove away.

The store clerk said a man walked in and pointed a gun. When the man noticed a screen showing surveillance cameras in the store, he shot the screen and left. In the parking lot, witnesses said the man shot toward two people before leaving. No one was physically injured.

Based on witness statements, police determined that the same person, later identified as Robertson, was responsible for both incidents.
