Police investigating after 7-year-old killed in murder-suicide

A 48-year-old man fatally shot the child and then himself, according to police.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A 7-year-old was killed in a murder-suicide Sunday in Colorado Springs, police said on Monday.

About 5 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 3100 block of Lange Terrace, and they found a man and the child dead from gunshot wounds.

On Monday, Colorado Springs Police said they are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the man as Christopher Rael, 48. Colorado Springs. Police said they were not naming the 7-year-old child due to the victim's age and Riley's Law.

Rael and the child were known to each other, police said, but they would not elaborate further on how they know each other.

Police said this is the 10th homicide in the city this year.
