Denver police investigate multiple home break-ins

Surveillance video from several homes show a suspect wearing a blue jacket, jeans, a baseball hat, a face covering and carrying a crowbar.

DENVER — The Denver Police Department is investigating multiple break-ins that were caught on home surveillance cameras, possibly involving the same suspect. As of now, no arrests have been made.

David and Heather Bacon said their home in Denver was broken into on November 22, the day before Thanksgiving.

"Our phones started blowing up with security alerts and the local police calling us to let us know our house had been broken into,” said David.

The couple was spending the Thanksgiving holiday in the mountains with their children when they got the alert.

"It was very evident at that moment that something real was happening to our house,” said David. “I mean, we felt paralyzed being hours away.”

When they reviewed the security camera footage, Heather and David saw the suspect creeping around in their fenced in back yard. He was wearing a blue puff jacket, blue jeans, baseball cap, and a face covering. He was also carrying a crowbar.

Police told the family the suspect made it inside their home but most likely ran away because of the alarm.

"I don't want anyone else to have to feel like the way we feel right now, which is violated," said Heather.

The surveillance video captured the man peeping into their garage through a side window. He then moved to the backyard where the family didn’t have any cameras.

"He went around the side of the house, over to our kitchen window,” said David. “Then used a crowbar to pry open our kitchen window."

Police told the family the suspect made it inside their home but most likely ran away because of the alarm.

"He looks just like he could be anybody's neighbor, which also makes me nervous,” said Heather.

That same day, November 22, the Cherry Hills Village Police Department asked residents in the Cherry Ridge Subdivision to shelter in place. They were actively searching for a suspect, and the picture looked oddly familiar to Heather.

“I had a pit in my stomach thinking we're not the only ones that this is happening to,” said Heather.

Another family living in the Denver area shared their surveillance video with 9NEWS. Their home was broken into on November 17 and again November 22. The video shows the suspect wearing a blue puff jacket, blue jeans, baseball cap, and a face covering. He was also carrying a crowbar. The family said the man stole jewelry from them the first time and was scared off when he tried to break in a second time.

David and Heather said the suspect didn't take anything from their home, and they’re worried he’s going to come back. They’re in the process of installing more cameras and educating their kids on what to do if he does come back.

“This guy just came in and nobody saw him and that scares me,” said Heather. “It scares me for my family. It scares me for our neighbors.”

“We have an alarm system,” said David. “We have cameras. We have a dog. We’ve got neighbors on the watch, and this still happened to us. It makes us uneasy. He could come back so we’re on alert.”

The Cherry Hills Village Police Department found the vehicle the suspect was driving but not the suspect. They’re asking anyone with information to reach out to police or contact Crime Stoppers.
