Police said the pursuit began in Denver Friday night with a report of shots fired.

DENVER — A suspect is dead and an officer is injured after a police pursuit in Denver and Aurora Friday night.

The Denver Police Department (DPD) said the pursuit began after a report of shots fired near East 47th Avenue and Peoria Street just after 7 p.m.

The chase went through Aurora and ended back in Denver near East 45th Avenue and Peoria Street, according to police.

DPD said when officers attempted to contact the suspect, he was found dead in the vehicle from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His name and age have not been released.

Two patrol vehicles were rammed during the pursuit, police said. One officer was taken to the hospital with what police believe are minor injuries.
