Suspect arrested in Englewood shooting

Joseph Devivo, Jr., 52, is accused of killing David Johnson, 53, on Oct. 24.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Police said on Wednesday they have made an arrest in the October killing of a man in Englewood.

The Englewood Police Department said in a release that Joseph Michael Devivo Jr. was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for second-degree murder and first-degree assault and booked at the Arapahoe County jail.

Devivo, 52, is accused of shooting and killing 53-year-old David Johnson early on Oct. 24 at 2819 S. Acoma St., according to police.

The police department put out a news release the day after the shooting asking the public help them find Devivo. They said Wednesday that tips from the public and their partnership with Denver Police helped them find him.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that the two men knew each other. According to an arrest affidavit, a witness told police that Devivo and Johnson had gotten into a physical fight when the shooting happened. It says Devivo was upset with Johnson because Johnson owed Devivo's friend money.

Devivo is set to make his first court appearance on Thursday.
