COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Commerce City Police officers were involved in a shooting with a suspect who was armed with a knife and threatening to kill his family, said police.
Officers responded to a scene in the 7000 block of Garden Lane just after 8 p.m. after the man called 911 to tell emergency dispatchers that he was armed with a knife and planned to hurt his family.
Police said that officers tried to de-escalate the situation but the man was "uncooperative" and refused to drop the weapon after repeated commands to do so. Officers then fired their weapons at the 22-year-old suspect.
The man was taken to the hospital and police said they do not know what his injuries were.
The 17th Judicial District was notified of the incident and a Critical Incident Response Team, or CIRT, will investigate the shooting.
Per policy, the department said the involved officers were placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
