Man dies months after January shooting, death investigated as homicide

Lyle "Alex" Kerr died last weekend after he and another man were shot in January, according to Denver Police.

DENVER — Denver Police put out a plea Thursday to the public for tips about a January shooting that is now a homicide investigation after one of the victims succumbed to his injuries this week.

Lyle "Alex" Kerr, 42, was shot while inside a vehicle parked near East 7th Avenue and North Lincoln Street around 9 p.m. on Jan. 23. According to Denver Police, Kerr and another man were in the vehicle when a suspect or suspects approached and shot them both.

The suspect or suspects left the area on foot after the shooting, according to police.

Kerr succumbed to injuries he received from the shooting on April 21. Police did not provide an update about the other victim's condition.

Anyone with information about who is responsible for Kerr’s death, or the circumstances surrounding it, is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. 

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
