KUSA – An 18-year-old man has been formally charged with allegedly stabbing a woman who was jogging on a bike path behind a resort in Beaver Creek.
The Fifth District Attorney’s Office said in a news release Friday that Michael Young has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after deliberation and extreme indifference, as well as assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and with extreme indifference.
Young is accused of stabbing the victim on May 31 while she was running behind the Westin Riverfront Resort.
Prosecutors say Young came up behind the victim and passed her on a jogging trail. The woman was alarmed but kept going, according to the news release, and that’s when she was struck with a knife multiple times, suffering wounds to her head and torso.
She was taken to the hospital but has since been released. The victim is expected to recover.
If convicted, Young cold be sentenced to up to 48 years in prison. He is currently being held without bond in the Eagle County Jail.
