31-year-old man arrested in 44-year-old woman's stabbing death

Aurora Police arrested Jorge Fernandez-Garcia in connection with the stabbing that occurred in the 2200 block of Geneva Street.

AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Police have arrested a 31-year-old man who they say stabbed a woman to death early Sunday morning.

Officers responded around 1:45 a.m. to the 2200 block of Geneva Street, where they found a woman on the ground and a man standing over her.

The man, later identified by police as Jorge Fernandez-Garcia, ran from the scene, police said. Fernandez-Garcia was taken into custody Sunday afternoon, APD said.

The victim, identified as Luz Elena Lomeli-Lucio, 44, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Fernandez-Garcia is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder - domestic violence. He's being held in the Adams County jail.

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
