BOULDER, Colo. — The University of Colorado Boulder has a new chancellor.
Justin Schwartz has accepted the leadership position at Colorado’s largest public university, according to a news release from the school.
The University of Colorado Board of Regents unanimously approved a three-year contract with Schwartz, per the release.

"It is an incredible honor to serve the University of Colorado, our students, faculty, staff and alumni, and the people across our state," Schwartz said in the news release. "CU has incredible momentum, and we will carry the torch into a new era for the institution, elevating every aspect of our university.”
Schwartz comes to CU Boulder from Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania, where he served as executive vice president and provost. He was previously the Harold and Inge Marcus Dean of Engineering at Penn State.
Schwartz, who has a PhD in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will officially start as CU Boulder’s chancellor on July 1.
CU Boulder’s longtime chancellor, Philip DiStefano, revealed his plan to step down during his annual State of the Campus address on Sept. 26, 2023. He began his tenure as chancellor in 2009.
