GOLDEN, Colo. — Fencing is going up this week at the site of the Coors family’s major redevelopment project in downtown Golden, signaling the start of construction on the project that’s been planned for close to four years.

Golden-based AC Development is all set to break ground on Clayworks, a 12.4-acre site in downtown Golden. Located at 600 Ninth St., Clayworks will bring 1.2 million square feet of new office, residential, hotel and retail space to the five-block district.

The first phase will include the demolition of many of the site’s former industrial buildings. Demolition will start next week and continue through the next four months. The first construction project coming to the site will be the 182,000-square-foot office headquarters for CoorsTek, a mix of new construction and adaptive reuse of two of the oldest buildings there. The four-story building includes underground parking and space for three restaurant and beverage tenants. The building will be home to additional tenants besides just CoorsTek as well.

Last year, AC Development and the Coors family have branded the site Clayworks as an homage to the Coors family’s ceramics manufacturing company CoorsTek, which was located on the site from 1910 to 2022.
