Security guard shoots trespasser at Denver apartment complex, police say

The suspect is expected to survive. He faces an assault charge.

DENVER — A security guard shot and wounded a man during a confrontation at a Denver apartment complex early Saturday.

The Denver Police Department said the security guard was trying to contact a man who was trespassing in the gym of an apartment complex in the 400 block of South Cherokee Street at around 2 a.m. Saturday. That's located south of West Alameda Avenue and East of Interstate 25.

There was a fight between the two, according to police, during which the suspect managed to take the security guard's Taser and tried to use it against him.

Police said the security guard then drew his gun and shot the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Yousif Ibrahim.

Ibrahim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to police. He's being held for investigation of second-degree assault.
