AURORA, Colo. — Prosecutors continued to try to convince jurors Friday that suspended Aurora Police officer Nathan Woodyard’s actions back in 2019 helped lead to the death of Elijah McClain.
Woodyard is the third Aurora officer to stand trial for McClain's death.
In the morning, two of Woodyard’s fellow officers— both of whom responded to the scene on Aug. 24, 2019— testified about what they saw.
Both officers testified during the previous trial of Jason Rosenblatt and Randy Roedema. Only Roedema was convicted in that trial.
Aurora Police officer Darron Dunson told the jury Friday that he was present when McClain said he couldn’t breathe. Officer Alicia Ward told the jury she saw fellow officers not putting McClain into a proper recovery position.
In the afternoon, EMT Aleesa Gonzalez told the jury she was the one who initiated CPR in the back of an ambulance shortly after the administration of ketamine.
A medical examiner with the Adams County Coroner’s Office has already previously testified that he concluded the ketamine administration led to McClain’s death.
Gonzlez said, “I did a round of CPR. I did [another] round of CPR” for approximately two minutes. She then drove an ambulance to the hospital.
The trial resumes Tuesday. The judge has given the jury Monday off.
