DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Brook's Steak House, an iconic restaurant in Greenwood Village, closed Jan. 1.

Robert Melton, owner of Brook's, said the business has been struggling for years due to the increasing number of steakhouses that have opened in the Denver Tech Center over the last decade, such as Shanahan's, Del Frisco's Steakhouse and Morton's The Steakhouse, which closed in February 2012.

"When we first opened, we were the only fine dining steakhouse south of Cherry Creek. And we were extremely successful...because of that, everybody followed," Melton said. "The prime steakhouse business is a limited market. [Other restaurants] have diluted the market."

Brook's Steak House, located at 6538 S. Yosemite Cir. in Greenwood Village, opened in 1996. The restaurant was located in an iconic castle-like building just west of I-25 between Orchard and Arapahoe Roads.
