POLITICS OF AN ESTRADA PICK.
  • Would be viewed by Senate Democrats as a flagrant dismissal by Bush of their calls for consultation in light of their long-standing opposition to his appellate court nomination
  • In 2001, was an early poster child for White House and conservative complaints about Senate Democrats filibustering Bush's judicial nominees. Democrats claimed that he didn't provide enough information on his legal views
  • Also was opposed by the Latino community due to his staunchly conservative views, including the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund
  • Would be the first Hispanic justice on the court, giving Bush a boost with Latino voters
MISCELLANEOUS.
  • As a partner with Gibson, Dunn, amp; Crutcher, Estrada principally represented the insurance and health care provider Aetna, Inc.
