On the night of Wednesday, April 24, deputies with the Eagle County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported disturbance at Second Street Park in Gypsum. When they got there, deputies found that "multiple teenagers had been involved in an altercation" and one of them sustained serious injuries, the sheriff's office said.

The teen victim was taken to a hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, but they later died. The sheriff's office said it is investigating this incident as a homicide.

One teenage suspect, who had left the scene before deputies arrived, was arrested shortly after the altercation, the sheriff's office said. On Saturday, May 4, the sheriff's office shared an update saying a second suspect, also a juvenile, was arrested in connection with the investigation.
