DENVER — For the first time in program history, Durango has captured a hockey state championship.
The Demons defeated Summit 4-2 in the Class 4A state title game Tuesday night at Magness Arena to bring home their first trophy.
Durango had four different goal scorers who included: Henry Howe, Brady Holbrook, Wynn Daniels and Lucas Betz. Cole Stuckey and Graham Schuman scored for the Tigers.
"I'm feeling great. This is such a great opportunity for a great group of guys," Holbrook said. "Such a good feeling. I'm never going to forget it."
Both Durango and Summit were making their first appearance in a championship game.
The Demons went 14-6 overall on the season, rattling off a seven-game win streak in route to the championship. The Tigers went 10-11-1 as runner-up.
