DENVER — Harald Hasselbach, a Denver Broncos defensive lineman for seven seasons from 1994-2000, passed away Thanksgiving morning from cancer, his family announced through the team.

Hasselbach was 56. The family said he was diagnosed six months ago with metastatic mucinous adenocracinoma. The family said he died peacefully in the comfort of his home, free of pain.

Hasselbach was born in the Netherlands and played high school in the greater Vancouver, British Columbia area. He played his college ball at the University of Washington before beginning his professional career in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders, where he played for four seasons.

Extremely quick for his 6-foot-6, 280-pound size, Hasselbach signed with the Broncos prior to the 1994 season and was a part-time starter all seven seasons. He had multiple sacks in each season and finished with 17.5 in his career.

He was a member of the Broncos' 1997-98 Super Bowl championship teams, making him one of 10 players who played on winning Grey Cup and Super Bowl teams. Hasselbach started all three of the Broncos' 1998 postseason games.

Hasselbach is survived by his wife Aundrea; four children. Ashlee, Terran, and twins Aven and Kian; and four grandchildren.
