1 dead following auto pedestrian crash in Commerce City

A pedestrian was struck by the driver of a commercial motor vehicle in the 9600 block of East 96th Avenue, according to police.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Commerce City Police Department (CCPD) is investigating a fatal auto pedestrian crash that happened in the 9600 block of East 96th Avenue late Thursday night.

According to CCPD, a pedestrian was walking in the roadway when they were struck by the driver of commercial motor vehicle. 

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported.

East 96th Avenue was closed between Alton Street and Heinz Way for several hours as crews processed the scene.

Police have not determined the contributing factors that lead up to the crash.

This is the fifth fatal crash investigation in Commerce City this year, according to police. Eight people have been killed in those five crashes, police said.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released from the Adams County Coroner's Office following notification of next of kin.
