More than 800 flights delayed, dozens canceled at Denver airport due to winter weather

Travelers should check their flight status before heading to DIA.

DENVER — Hundreds of flights have been delayed and dozens canceled at Denver International Airport (DIA) while a winter storm moves into the Rocky Mountain region.

As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, 872 flights were delayed and 86 had been canceled, according to FlightAware.

Affected airlines included Southwest, SkyWest, United Delta, Frontier, British Airways, American Airlines, Lufthansa and JetBlue.

A ground delay was in effect for the airport Saturday night. The Federal Aviation Administration reported average delays of over two hours.

A Winter Storm Warning is up for the Denver area, with 4-10 inches of snow the most likely snowfall range across most of the metro area, although snowfall amounts will vary widely across a small area.

The Warning is in place until Sunday afternoon.

DIA advises all passengers to contact their airline to check their flight status before going to the airport, and to plan extra time for traveling to the airport.
