19-year-old charged in stepfather's death arrested for separate Aurora shooting while on bond

Aurora Police said Mark Sisneros, 19, was arrested on one count of attempted first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred last week.

AURORA, Colo. — The suspect in a shooting that seriously injured a teenager was out on bond for the fatal shooting of his stepfather, according to the Aurora Police Department.

On Tuesday, Aurora Police said Mark Sisneros, 19, had been arrested in connection with a shooting in Aurora that took place on May 3 in a field near the intersection of South Hayesmount Road and East Jewell Avenue. The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sisneros is being held on one count of attempted first-degree murder, police said.

When Sisneros was arrested for last week's incident, he was out on bond for the fatal shooting of his stepfather, police confirmed.

On the afternoon of Oct. 22, 2023, officers responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on East Applewood Drive in Aurora. The victim, 38-year-old Elijah Massie, was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Witnesses reportedly told officers that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Massie and his stepson, Sisneros, who fled the residence.

The affidavit for Sisneros' arrest in 2023 says police were talking to witnesses when he returned to the residence and told an officer that he had shot Massie. In an interview, Sisneros told officers that Massie had "verbally and physically abused" him and his family for years, per the affidavit. Sisneros said Massie had gotten physical with both him and his brother during an argument that day and told officers he decided to pull the trigger after thinking that Massie "was not going to put his hands on him or his family again," the affidavit reads.

Sisneros was arrested on one count of second-degree murder and posted a $25,000 cash or surety bond on Oct. 29, court records show. He is due in court for a preliminary hearing for this case in July.
