CHADRON, Neb. — A Greeley man produced a weapon before he was shot and killed by police in Nebraska Friday, the Nebraska State Patrol said.
Troopers said the shooting happened Friday morning at a gas station near the intersection of Highway 385 and Highway 20 in Chadron, a town in northwestern Nebraska about 13 miles from the South Dakota border.
Troopers said Chadron Police Department officers contacted the driver and passenger of a stolen car at one of the gas pumps. The car had been reported stolen out of Colorado last week, troopers said.
"During the interaction with the occupants of the vehicle, the passenger produced a weapon," troopers said in a news release. "Multiple officers fired their duty weapon, striking the subject."
It's unclear what type of weapon the man had.
Troopers said the man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Adrian Muniz, 40, of Greeley.
Troopers said the driver of the car, a woman from Greeley, was not injured. She was arrested on a theft charge and on a warrant from Colorado, troopers said.
Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the shooting.
