17-year-old boy critically injured in shooting

Police have arrested a 15-year-old in the shooting.

GREELEY, Colo. — A 17-year-old boy was critically injured in a shooting Wednesday night in Greeley in what police said they believe was a targeted attack.

The Greeley Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to an apartment complex in the 3700 block of 24th Street on a report of a shooting at 8:49 p.m. Wednesday. While they were on their way, they were told that the shooter had left the scene.

When they got there, officers found the teenage victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was in the hospital in critical condition on Friday.

Officers stayed at the scene overnight to continue their investigation, police said. Their investigation led them to a Greeley home west of 59th Avenue, between West 13th and West 16th streets.

A reverse 911 call went out to nearby residents telling them to stay in their homes about 6 a.m. Thursday as the police department's SWAT team was called in. The suspect was not found in the home, and the area was cleared about 10:30 a.m.

Some time after that, investigators got a search warrant for home near 28th Avenue and West 20th Street, where a 15-year-old boy was arrested. Due to his age, his name was not released.

The suspect was being held on suspicion of:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • First-degree assault
  • Felony menacing
  • Aggravated robbery

Greeley Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case who has not already spoken with officers is asked to contact Detective Shea at 970-350-9605 or by email at michael.shea@greeleypd.com.
