AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Police are investigating a shooting at the Southlands Mall that left a teenager dead.
The Aurora Police Department said the 15-year-old boy, Raphael Velin, was shot in the parking lot of the shopping center near 6100 Main Street Saturday night at around 8:30 p.m.
He was taken to the hospital, where he died, according to police.
Police said officers are looking for four to five suspects who drove away from the scene. Officers located the black four-door sedan that was driven by the suspects, APD said.
On Sunday, Aurora Police Chief Art Acevedo said investigators believe the shooting happened during a preplanned meeting between the people involved. He also said that police have increased patrols at the mall despite saying there was no known threat to shoppers.
Police are planning to hold a news conference sometime this week to provide an update on the shooting.
Investigators are asking people in the area to check surveillance cameras to see if anything from the incident was recorded.
