Teen arrested in connection to deadly Lakewood shooting

The suspect in the death of a 64-year-old Lakewood man is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, police said.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting of a 64-year-old Lakewood man on Monday evening, according to the Lakewood Police Department (LPD).

Officers said they responded just before 11 p.m. to a residence on the 8100 block of West 12th Avenue for reports of a shooting, and found Robert Gene Steige suffering from gunshot injuries near the entrance to his home.

Family members told officers they found the victim outside and immediately called 911, according to LPD.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Detectives said the investigation led them to the teenage suspect. He was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder.

LPD said the suspect will not identified, and no additional information will be released at this time, because he is under 18.
