LAFAYETTE, Colo. — Since its debut in 2018 A Life Unbound has generated hope around a holistic neurological method developed by Anat Baniel to improve the brain and the body through movement.

Canadian film producer Geordie Trifa documents Nash, a young boy who is spastic quadriplegia and Tessa, a stroke victim with right hemiplegia and speech impediment, who both experience remarkable recoveries through the Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® (ABM).

The film, a Raw Science Festival 2020 finalist, is being shown for free through funding from Jamie Stefanski, physical therapist,  ABM Practioner and owner of Kinetic Connection, LLC in Lafayette.

Stefanski organized the event and is hosting a Mountain States Regional Genetics Network (MSRGN) Genetics Pop-Up to honor Rare Disease Day 2020 before the showing of the film.

"I want to present MSRGN as a resource for the special needs community with and without a genetic diagnosis because many times someone without a diagnosis has an underlying condition that has yet to be identified and they need resources to help them navigate finding support and help for their child or themselves and those with a diagnosis still need resources to help support them, Stefanski said.  "I also want to provide the resource of community and a place to connect."

The event was to be an in-person gathering but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stefanski is using Zoom to run the program.

When: Sunday, May 3 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Agenda: Genetics Pop-Up at 1:30 p.m., film showing at 2:30 p.m., questions and answers at 3:30 p.m.

Registration required: https://kineticconnectionsonline2020.eventbrite.com.

Funding for the Genetics Pop-Up comes from grant money given to MSRGN from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The film also features interviews with neuroscientists and neuroplasticity experts, including Dr. Michael Merzenich “the father of neuroplasticity,” Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor author of My Stroke of Insight, Dr. Martha Herbert author of The Autism Revolution, and Dr. Rick Hanson of Buddha’s Brain.

Baniel, a dancer, psychologist and student of the Feldenkrais Method — which helps with range of motion, flexibility and coordination, is the author of two highly acclaimed books about this transformational methodology: Move Into Life: NeuroMovement for Lifelong Vitality and Kids Beyond Limits.
